Noun (คำนามทั่วไป) เป็นคำนามชนิดหนึ่งเอาไว้ใช้เรียกหรืออธิบายแทน
คน สัตย์ สิ่งของ หรือ สถานที่ เป็นการใช้เรียกทั่ว ๆ ไป ไม่ชี้เฉพาะเจาะจง เวลาใช้คำนามทั่วไปนั้น
พยัญชนะตัวหน้าไม่จำเป็นต้องใช้ตัวใหญ่ นอกจากคำนามทั่วไปคำนั้นนั้นเป็นคำขึ้นต้นประโยค
Common Noun หรือ คำนามทั่วไป นั้นยังรวมถึง
ชื่อตำแหน่งงาน ชนิดต้นไม้ ชนิดสัตว์ ลักษณะทางภูมิศาสตร์ วัตถุต่าง ๆ
ความคิดที่เป็นนามธรรม และอื่น ๆ อีกมากมาย
ในบางครั้ง common Noun (คำนามทั่วไป) สามารถกลายเป็น proper noun (คำนามเฉพาะ)
ได้เช่นกัน
