Hit the books นักเรียนไม่ว่าจะเอก โท ตรี มักจะพูดกัน ใช้ในการสื่อความหมายที่ว่า ต้องอ่านหนังสือ

Lara : Hey! Nick on a scale of 1 to America how free are you tonight?

Nick : Sorry, I cannot go out with you tonight, I have to hit the books. I have SAT test tomorrow. 

-You had better hit the books if you want to pass the final exam on Monday. 

-I am about to go home and hit the books. I have finals next week.

All set

All set หมายถึง พร้อม, เสร็จ, หรือ พร้อมเพื่อจะไป

- You are all set.
- Are you all set with your homework?
- It is all set now.

Call it a night

Call it a night / call it a day หมายถึงการเลิกทำกิจกรรมที่กำลังทำในขณะนั้นเพราะว่าคุณคิดว่าคุณทำมามากพอแล้วหรือคุณไม่อยากจะทำต่อไปแล้ว

- We have been studying very hard. I think we should call it a day.

- This is the last question, and then we wili call it a night.

- It is almost midnight, so we should call it a night.

Cut to the chase เป็นการสื่อเพื่อให้คนที่เราสนทนาด้วยรู้ว่า โอเครเราจะพูดตรงๆ เฉพาะประเด็นสำคัญแล้วนะ ไม่พูดวกวนไปมาแล้ว หรือจะเป็นการบอกให้คนที่เราคุยด้วยรู้ว่า เฮ้ยฉันไม่อยากฟังแล้วเอาประเด็นสำคัญมาเลย

- I do not have time right now. Let's cut to the chase.
- Let's cut to the chase. There will be no bonus this year.

There, there ใช้ในการปลอบโยนเพื่อให้อีกฝ่ายหนึ่งรู้สึกดีขึ้น

• There, there. Do not worry.  Everything will be alright. 
• There, there, sweetie. You will feel better after you drink a cup of hot chocolate. 

หรือถ้าเพื่อนร้องไห้อยู่แล้วเราไม่รู้จะพูดอะไรหรือปลอบอะไร ก็เข้าไปกอดแล้วลูบหลังหรือลูบหัวแล้วพูดว่า there, there เฉยๆ ก็ได้
